He called my father-in-law and told him someone was hacking his computer and he was a Geek Squad representative for MicroSoft. He said that the police were on their way to dad's door to tell him he was "doing illegal activities on the computer" and they would "have to confiscate his computer if he didn't pay him immediately." Dad ended up giving him a ton of information over the phone, including a credit card number, address, last four of his social security number.............. He then instructed dad to go to a website, which he did and in less than 10 minutes later their computer was locked and they could not log in. He then called back saying dad needed to send a moneygram for $99.95 to a woman in Canada and he would unlock their computer. But not until "the moneygram was sent and he was able to verify the completed transaction." Dad then asked me what I thought after doing all of this......................Old people should not use technology...........Aaaaargh!!!! We immediately cancelled their credit card and are going to do a complete swipe of the computer. Now we need to follow up for identity theft and the list goes on. If that works, lesson learned..............I hope.
