The real IRS does not make phone calls like this and has sent out a notice about this type of scam/phone fraud in which people are attempting to take money through the impersonation of a United State Federal Government Agency. Recent news reports state that the wrongdoers are often outside the United States (despite the U.S. area code), prey on the elderly, and attempt to steal identities or intimidate completely innocent people into providing bank card payments. ”
