The "client" Tao Lei submitted an event request to a hotel I plan many events with. The hotel then passed the lead on to me to be their event planner and work with the hotel to host the event. The scammer "Tao Lei" gave a reputable source from Conference Direct, which is why I assumed it was a credible lead. Here are the following details the scammer client Tao Lei provided myself and the hotel with:\r\n\r\nThank you for your timely response and sorry for my late reply back to you asper my busy schedule and that is why I want an event planner in regards of my coming 10th wedlock anniversary which is coming up in September 24th here and i don’t want the party to be held at my house, am having a lot of stress regarding this event and i want you to please cater for this event for me and i also do believe that you will do me a lovely party and thrill my guest to the best of your ability.\r\n\r\n*Getting us a venue\r\n\r\n*Make proper arrangement for flowers and decor\r\n\r\n*Photography service\r\n\r\n*Food and drinks for the guest as i do not know what the guests might choose for their meals and drinks, I will have to live that for you but it shouldn't be more than my budget.\r\n\r\n*I'd prefer a DJ and would like R&B and Jazz music.\r\n\r\n*Event color : white and purple\r\n\r\n*Budget : 14k\r\n\r\nI want you to be rest assured that all the payments will go through you as my party coordinator/event planner to all vendors and you can get all the necessary arrangement done for my event as i work 24/7 in a ship out of the State but will be in town 5 days prior to my wedding anniversary. My party time 3pm to 7pm, Expected guest is about 35 to 40 also how much do you charge for this type of event deposit or full payment will be made asap with my credit card once availability for venue is confirmed by you. I believe you can bring a level of service that surpasses anything we’ve seen before.\r\n\r\nAfter communicating for a day with him, he had agreed to my contract, signed, and had it sent back within a day. After he signed the contract he asked me for a "favor" to send him two invoices for $5000 each totaling $10,000, and he would pay a deposit of $4000, but I could keep $100 as a tip for for my gas. He needed me to transfer $5,900 into an account for limo services. It was at this point I looked up the phone number and address and figured out it was a scammer. No personal or financial information was given on my behalf. I did however bait him and was able to get the "limo" account number he wanted me to transfer money into. I am now reporting the phone number, bank account number, and also the email he uses....Hopefully this will slow this scammer down a bit.
