“ Also got the same call claiming that I was being criminally charged by the IRS for back taxes from 2008 - 2013. Threatened jail time of 5 years, full garnishment of wages, repossession of home and vehicles, and fines upwards of $90k. Caller stated that he had to read me a statement and that I was not permitted to interrupt, and that at the end of his reading I would be permitted to ask questions. When the question time arose, I asked for a case #, where I could go to find & download formal documentation, and also for a total of taxes that were claimed owed as he hadn't yet mentioned a number. Caller then became irate, and yelled, "Why would you want to go to jail for this? Why wouldn't you just pay? You are only listed as owing $2461.34, why wouldn't you just pay this?" When I asked again for documentation to support that amount, as well as a detailed account of any previous attempts to contact me regarding this debt, he hung up on me. Called me from a second number, as well - a 240 area code. Caller NEVER referenced my name, SSN, or any personal information; I was asked only to give my phone number for reference when I returned the message he'd left. ”
